What Hetzner delivers
The Hetzner Server Auction offers refurbished dedicated servers at a lower price than new ones, without setup fees, and prices drop over time. The page lists unlimited traffic, a 1 Gbit/s port, full root access, monitoring with email notification, one IPv4 address and an IPv6 /64 subnet. It also states that support includes free replacement of defective hardware (checked 2026-10-24).
The catch is the operating system. Hetzner writes that the server is delivered in the Rescue System: "As it is not possible to guarantee a smooth installation of the operating system automatically, the server is delivered in the Rescue System." In other words, you get hardware and a rescue environment, and the installation is yours to do.
Windows on an auction server
Hetzner lists Windows Server 2025 (Standard and Datacenter editions) among the optional features of the auction page. If you go this way, you order and set it up yourself; see our guide to Windows on Hetzner for what Hetzner's documentation expects you to handle.
With us there is nothing to order and nothing to set up. We install Windows Server 2022 on your auction server and set up Remote Desktop before you ever log in.
What an auction reseller does
An auction reseller orders servers from the Server Auction, prepares them and rents them to its own customers. You pay the reseller, not Hetzner, and get a server that is ready to use. If you are happy to work from the Rescue System and install the system yourself, ordering from Hetzner is cheaper. A reseller is for people who want a working Windows server in about an hour.
How it works, step by step
- Choose a server. Open the auction list, filter by CPU, RAM, drives and location, and press Order.
- Pay. By card or crypto. The minimum payment is 1 month.
- We order and install. We order the server, install Windows Server 2022 and set up Remote Desktop.
- You log in. IP address and Administrator login, usually about 1 hour after payment.

Does a Hetzner auction server come with Windows?

Is it more expensive than ordering from Hetzner?
Yes. Hetzner states auction servers come without setup fees. Our price includes a markup over Hetzner's price, plus a one-time setup fee that is shown when you order. You pay for the ready system, payment by card or crypto, monitoring and help.

Can I pay with crypto?
Yes. Hetzner does not accept crypto, but you pay us by card or crypto (BTC, USDT, ETH and more). The minimum payment is 1 month.
Does the price drop while I wait?
Auction prices drop over time, and each server in the list shows a timer. The price is fixed at the moment you order.
Can I get a refund?
No. Payments are not refundable and the setup fee is not refunded. The minimum payment is 1 month. Mandatory consumer rights under the law remain unchanged.
